Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL)
Sheridan Park Laboratories Technical Tour/Visit Down Town Toronto

Friday, June 2

Atomic Energy of Canada Limited is the designer of CANDU nuclear reactors, used for generating electricity in Canada and throughout the world. A tour of the AECL Sheridan Park Laboratories will introduce (with some demonstration) several facilities used for design, development and qualification of reactor components. These facilities are:

•  3D computer simulations used to visualize conceptual design

•  3D laser scanning which eliminates costly "walk-downs" of nuclear facilities and provides "as built" conditions

•  Full scale out-reactor   test rig to qualify components for  AECL's small radioisotope production and experimental reactors

•  Flow visualization test rig to investigate problem and solution for CANDU fuel and fuel channel components

•  Steam generator cleaning

•  Reactor feeder replacement mock-ups and tooling

•  Retube mock-up facility

•  Fuelling machine test rig

•  Fuelling machine assembly room

The duration of the tour will be approximately one hour. Safety glasses and hard hats will be provided. Work boots are not required. A security check is required in advance; the appropriate form will be sent to you upon your registration.

After the technical tour, participants will be taken to Toronto Harbour Front. They will have lunch, visit CN Tower and other surrounding sites, and have free time for shopping.

While the return time to the Waterloo Inn is planned to have participants at the hotel by 6:00 pm, because of traffic in southern Ontario, this is a rough estimate only.  Participants wishing to fly out of Pearson International Airport on Friday (a 90 minute to 2 hour drive from Waterloo depending on traffic) should plan accordingly.

Maximum number of Participants: SOLD OUT
