Niagara Falls Sir Adam Beck
Ontario Cultural and Technical Tour

Monday, May 29

Niagara Falls, Canada's contribution to the "Seven Wonders of the World" will be the destination of Monday's cultural tour. A tour bus will travel from the Waterloo Inn to the Niagara region where the first stop will give you an opportunity to see and hear the natural spectacle of the falls. A ride on the Maid of the Mist will get you up close and personal with the natural beauty and incredible power of the falls.

A delicious Niagara regional cuisine lunch will follow at Queenston Heights Restaurant overlooking the mighty Niagara River. You will learn about the area's rich history as you dine beside Brock's Monument, dedicated to Canada's hero of the War of 1812.

After lunch, we will enjoy a tour of Sir Adam Beck Power Generating Station, hosted by Ontario Power Generation. For millennia people have been fascinated by the overwhelming power of the Falls. Since 1954, Sir Adam Beck Generating Station No. 2 has captured that potential energy in Ontario's largest hydroelectric facility. It's a wonderful example of a natural, non-polluting and reliable power source that has worked in harmony with the beauty of Niagara for over five decades. The guided 45-minute tour, includes three observation areas an 11-minute video, and a view of the control room. The history and operations of both Sir Adam Beck Stations 1 and 2 will be discussed, followed by a Q&A session with the Public Affairs Officer.

A tour and tasting will take place at Lailey Vineyards winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Donna Lailey along with her daughter, Tanya is the proud owner of this celebrated vineyard and winery, specializing in Pinot Noir. Donna is the only female founding member of the Vintners Quality Alliance, Canada's appellation system for quality wines. In 1991, Donna was the first woman ever to be crowned Grape "King" of the Niagara Wine Festival, awarded for the best vineyard of the season. She insisted on being called "Grape Queen!"

The bus will depart the winery around 4:00 p.m. and head back to the Waterloo Inn.
