Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is an Ontario-based generation company whose principal business is the generation and sale of electricity in Ontario, Canada. OPG's focus is on the efficient and sustainable production and sale of electricity while operating in a safe, open and environmentally responsible manner.

Darlington Nuclear is Ontario Power Generation's newest CANDU (Canada Deuterium Uranium) nuclear generating station. Each of the 4 units produces 881 MW net and together provides about 17% of Ontario's electricity needs.

A by-product of the nuclear reaction in the CANDU system is tritium. To help keep workers safe, and to minimize the amount of tritium going into the environment a Tritium Removal Facility was opened at the Darlington site.

Darlington is located in the Municipality of Clarington about 70 kilometers east of Toronto. It has been registered to the ISO 140001 environmental standard and is certified by the Wildlife Habitat Council.

The Darlington Tour will include bus transportation from the Waterloo Inn to Darlington followed by light refreshments and a presentation in the auditorium on the Plant. Following a bus tour of the site, the In-plant tour will include:

•  Overlook Reactivity Deck

•  Turbine Hall

•  Spent Fuel Bay

•  Control Room

•  Tritium Removal Facility

The tour will conclude with lunch at Darlington Information Centre. Participants will be returned by bus to the Waterloo Inn.

While the return time to the Waterloo Inn is planned to have participants at the hotel by 6:00 pm, because of traffic in southern Ontario, this is a rough estimate only.  Participants wishing to fly out of Pearson International Airport on Friday (a 90 minute to 2 hour drive from Waterloo depending on traffic) should plan accordingly.

This is a private tour and is subject to Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission Regulations.  Ontario Power Generation reserves the right to limit access to certain parts of the tour based on security clearance requirements.
